We are seeking a full-time Legal Assistant who is committed to developing cultural competence. This position will support day-to-day tasks such as drafting documents, filing, communications, scheduling, document review, and other duties. Our ideal candidate is a self-motivated, highly organized individual who is dynamic in a changing environment and committed to providing culturally sensitive administrative and legal support to Indigenous clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Preparing, drafting, reviewing, and delivering various correspondence and documents

  • Assisting with client intake, communications, and finance tasks such as creating invoices and billing

  • Preparing and filing Land Titles documents, tracking and managing deadlines for conditions, financing, inspections, title searches, and closing dates

  • Opening, updating, organizing, maintaining, and closing legal files in an electronic filing system

  • Performing research and document review tasks, including reviewing and revisions of format, spelling, and grammar on final documents

  • Providing additional administrative assistance and general office duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Completion of recognized Legal Assistant program or 2-3 years of administrative experience, or a combination of Legal Assistant training and work experience.

  • Fluency in English (spoken and written) is required, and written/spoken French fluency is a significant asset.

  • Understanding of legal terminology and processes is a significant asset and will be essential in order to successfully perform the role.

  • Applicants are required to be able to adapt to new software quickly; familiarity with Clio practice management software and Unity real estate software are both assets.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally and kindly, both in writing and verbally.

  • Detail-oriented, including the ability to identify and correct grammatical errors or number errors in financial tasks.

  • Strong ability to communicate well with others in a working environment, including adapting to constructive feedback and taking accountability promptly.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage a full workload and prioritize appropriately in a dynamic environment.
